| Forth Annual Mayor-a-thon
Kapa'a Beach Park
Hundreds gathered at Kapaa Beach Park for the 4th Annual Mayor-a-thon and got moving! Fun warm-ups got the crowd ready for 1,2,4,6 and 8 mile walk, run and bike events. The crowd was treated to fun family activities, including Hula Hooping, games, dancing with the Mayor, and finished with some Zumba! The Garden Island Newspaper printer an article.

| Third Annual Mayor-a-thon
Kapa'a Beach Park
What a celebration! On Saturday, June 25th walkers, runners, cyclists and strollers arrived in droves to participate in the 3rd Annual Mayor-a-thon at Kapa'a Beach Park. Over 800 people, including several from the mainland enjoyed a morning full of fitness, dancing, games, breakfast and celebration. | Get Fit Kauai Annual Meeting
Courtyard Marriott in Kapa`a
On June 9, 2011, Get Fit Kauai, Kauai’s Nutrition & Physical Activity Coalition, held its annual meeting celebration at the Courtyard Marriot in Kapa’a. In attendance were 70 individuals, including Kauai’s Mayor, Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr. The year's successes were acknowledged at the annual meeting. Keynote speaker, Jim Charlier, a nationally recognized multimodal transportation planning expert, gave a dynamic presentation showing the health benefits of creating walkable communities and an effective public transportation system.

| Complete Streets Public Workshop
Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Get Fit Kauai (GFK), in cooperation with Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) and the National Complete Streets Coalition (NCSC), will be hosting a Complete Streets Public Workshop. Complete Streets are planned, designed and operated to enable safe access for all users; pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities. A Complete Streets overview presentation by National expert Paul Zykofsky, AICP, Associate AIA, will provide a background on the benefits of Complete Streets, dispel myths, and explain how existing streets can easily be retrofitted into Complete Streets. | Statewide Pedestrian Master Plan Public Meeting #2
War Memorial Convention Hall 5:30 - 7:30PM
The State Department of Transportation (DOT) is developing a Statewide Pedestrian Master Plan (Plan). The Plan will help to increase pedestrian safety and mobility, support a multimodal transportation system, and provide guidance on the best use of resources to implement pedestrian initiatives. This effort will help maintain the efficient movement of goods, services and people within the DOT land transportation network.

The 3rd W2SD on November 24th was another great success at Kapa`a Elementary. Over 100 children participated. Special thanks to the Safe Routes to School task force, Principal Jason Kuloloia, Vice-Principal Richard Edgesworth and School Superintendent Bill Arakaki. |

Turkey Trot a Thanksgiving Success! Over 100 people attended the FIRST annual Turkey Trot. The consensus was a very relaxed event—no pressure to perform, but families and newcomers to this sort of event were welcomed and enjoyed the morning.
