KGWO 2005 Team Rules and Regulations

1. Program Operation: Program Operation: Phase One of Kauai's Great Weigh Out is an 8-week healthy lifestyle challenge starting Saturday, March 5, 2005 and ending on Saturday, April 30, 2005. Phase Two is the maintenance program from May to December 2005. Kauai's Great Weigh Out Core Committee will be responsible for the operation of this program.
2. Teams: Team members must be 18 years of age and older. Each team must consist of 10 members. There will be no substitution of team members or teams as of February 6, 2005. A participant may not compete on more than one team. The first 20 teams to register will be accepted in the program.
3. Registration Dates:
Teams: Jan. 3 - Feb. 3, 2005
Me Too!, Seniors Too!, and Kids Too!: Jan. 3 - Mar. 5, 2005
4. Registration Fee: $10 per team member; $5 per Me Too! and Seniors Too! participant
5. KGWO Kick-off (Weigh-In)Event: Team members must attend this event on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Kukui Grove Center Stage from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Team members will be weighed individually and "En-masse" by teams. Privacy of individual weights will be maintained, but total team pounds will be publicized. A detailed schedule of "Weigh-In" times will be distributed at Captain's Meeting on February 26, 2005. *If a team member can't make it to the Kick off (weigh-in) and/or the Weigh-Out Party, the Program Committee will accept a doctor's statement verifying weight. During the weigh-in and weigh-out, jackets and sweaters need to be removed, however, shoes, shorts, trousers, skirts and undergarments are to be kept on. All pockets in clothing must be empty. Team members are requested to wear their team t-shirts.
6. Fit Buck Policy (teams only): There are 3 ways to earn fit bucks.
  • Attending a daily maximum of 2 sponsored events and/or classes offered through the Kauai Great Weigh Out program.
  • Recording the amount of fruits/vegetables and personal exercise time in the Nutrition and Activity log
  • Bringing guests to KGWO events. Each KGWO team member will be given 1 fit buck credit for a maximum of 5 guests per event. (Me Too & Seniors Too participants and children attending and completing KGWO weekly walks and monthly hikes qualify as guests.)
7. Injuries: Kauai's Great Weigh Out Program and Ho'ola Lahui Hawai'i is not responsible or liable for any injury or bodily harm sustained by participants before, during or after the operation of this program. Participants will sign a waiver prior to start of program. A medical clearance is required prior to the start of the program.
8. Media Release: Kauai's Great Weigh Out team members may be photographed as part of publicity to promote Kauai's Great Weigh Out program. The requirement to request participant permission prior to media release is waived for media releases that positively promote the program in the form of photos, TV, newspaper and radio.
9. Prizes: 1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded to the two teams losing the highest percentage of weight and the two teams earning the most Fit Bucks. Your team may win only one prize. Participation in KGWO activities allows individual Team Members, Me Too's! and Senior's Too! to earn chances to win prizes. Members of the Core Committee are not eligible to win prizes.
10. Health Screening: Each pariticipant will need to get a physical and the necessary health screenings from their personal physician or at Ho'ola Lahui Clinics.
