What is Kauai's Great Weigh Out?
Kauai's Great Weigh Out is an 8 week health and fitness challenge. The objective is to shed unwanted pounds and become more physically active through a sound nutrition and exercise program. There are 4 program options:

- Count steps using a pedometer
- Attend any KGWO events

- Weight loss is not a component of seniors too

- Open children and grandchildren (ages 6-12) of registered KGWO participants
- Keep a Healthy kids log
- Participate in KGWO events with parent or grandparent
- Earn points for chances to win prizes
- No fee - FREE
- Weight loss is not a component of kids too

Health Screenings and physicals
All participants will be required to complete a health assessment before and after the program. This can be done by your own doctor or you may qualify to use a Ho'ola Lahui Hawai'i/Kaua'i Community Health Center Clinic.
Healthy Lifestyle Maintenance Program
KGWO will not end after 8 weeks. The maintenance program will run from May to December 2005 and will include: continuing to keep a nutrition and activity log, community walks and hikes, and more prizes.
Team Captains' Commitment
Recruitment

Recruit a team of 10 committed people (including you).

Choose people willing to participate in KGWO daily and weekly activities and who will be committed to timely submission of their weekly log book information to you.

| 3. |
Recruit a team member to be Co-Captain. A current email address is required for both captain and co-captain.
|
| 4. |
Complete TEAM REGISTRATION form with all names and signatures. Fax to Anna at Ho'ola Lahui Hawai'i 246-9551.

Meetings and Programs
Captains will need to attend the following:

Captains' Luncheon before and after the 8 week challenge
- Before: Saturday, February 26, 2005 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Location TBD)
- After: (Location and Date to be decided)

Collect team member weekly activity and nutrition log Fit Buck totals and submit to the Fit Buck coordinator before the weekly deadline.
|
| 8. |
Set up a team meeting the week before the Kick-Off Event to distribute folders and t-shirts.
|
| 9. |
Stay in touch with your team throughout the 8-week challenge to offer support & encouragement. Weekly team meetings are highly recommended.

| 10. |
Stay in touch with your team during the maintenance program and be the link between KGWO core committee and your team.
|
Team Members' Commitment
| 1. |
Willing to join a team of 10 people and pay the $10 fee.
|
| 2. |
Commit to 8 weeks of exercise, healthy eating and education through KGWO programs.
|
| 3. |
Complete the required health assessment by February 26, 2005.
|
| 4. |
Contribute to the team goal to practice healthy living for chances to win prizes for the highest percentage of weight loss or most fit bucks earned.

Extend an individual effort to help the team succeed. This effort includes:
| a. |
Logging personal daily exercise and servings of fruits and vegetables.
|
| b. |
Submitting weekly log totals to team captain on time.
|
| c. |
Participating in team meetings called by your captain.
|
| d. |
Earning extra fit bucks by attending a maximum of two KGWO sponsored activities each day.

| 6. |
Attend the following mandatory activities:

"Kick-off (Weigh-In) Event" at Kukui Grove Center, Saturday, Mar. 5th 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon

| b. |
Makahiki Event at Wailua Houselots Park, Saturday, April 9th 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
|
| c. |
"Weigh Out Party" on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Kauai Convention Hall, 10:00a.m. to 1:00 p.m
