Kauai's Great Weigh Out 2003 is an 8 week health and fitness program that challenges Kauai people to Start Living Healthy by shedding unwanted pounds by becoming more physically active and eating healthier.

Fifteen teams of ten people have formed island-wide. You can still participate if you're not on a team by enrolling in the companion Me Too Program.
|
| 3. |
Prizes will be given to the top two teams with the greatest percentage weight loss and the top two teams that earn the most fit bucks.
|
| 4. |
Fit Bucks are like "Funny Moneys" and are earned in a variety of ways. Some ways to earn Fit Bucks are:
| a. |
Eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day
|
| b. |
Exercise at least 30 minutes daily
|
| c. |
Attend scheduled Weigh Out Classes at Wilcox Hospital (A full list of classes will be distributed at Captain's Meeting on Jan. 4th)
|
| d. |
Attend Weigh Out Exercise Activities and Weekly Walks (A full list of activities will be distributed at Captain's Meeting on Jan. 4th)
|
| e. |
Attend these Community Fitness Activities; i. American Heart Association's Keep Walking Class ii. Captain Cook 5km Walk/Run iii. Get Fit Kauai's January, February and March hikes and bike rides iv. Bicycle Kauai's Family Bike Ride

| f. |
Earn 5 Fit Bucks for every person not on a Weigh Out team (friend, co-worker, family member) that you bring with you to community Fitbuck Fitness Activities or/and Educational Weigh Out Classes at Wilcox. (Pets do not qualify)
|
| g. |
Watch Educational Weigh Out Classes on Ho'ike and submit test question answers to our Fit Buck Queen, Laura Kawamura.

| h. |
Have all ten members of your team show up for the Weigh In on Saturday, January 11th, 2003

Early Bird Registration. Teams whose registration is completed by Friday, December 6th will receive 50 bonus Fit Bucks.

A full list of ways to earn Fitbucks and further details will be given to Team Captains on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at Kauai's Great Weigh Out Captain and Coach mandatory meeting.

Registration is based on a first come, first served basis.
|
| 6. |
Registration Process:
| a. |
Recruit a team of 10 people who would like to lose weight by including more physical activity and healthy eating in their lives.
|
| b. |
Pick up a registration form from the Department of Health, Ho'ola Lahui Hawaii, or your local Neighborhood Center.
|
| c. |
Fax or mail completed registration forms to Colleen McCracken at Samuel Mahelona Medical Center, 4800 Kawaihau Road, Kapa'a Hawaii. 96746 OR FAX 823-4100. (Completed registration forms MUST have all addresses, emails, phone numbers, t-shirt sizes and waiver signatures of ALL TEN TEAM MEMBERS)

The first 10 teams to register will be notified by phone or/and email to confirm their entry.

Cost of the program is $5.00 per person. Captains will be required to collect the $5.00 per person on their teams and bring it with them to the Captain's Luncheon Meeting on Saturday, January 4th, 2003 at Kilohana
|
| 8. |
Rules and Regulations:
| a. |
Program Operation: Kauai's Great Weigh Out will start on Saturday, January 11, 2003 and end on March 8, 2002. Kauai's Great Weigh Out Core Committee will be responsible for the operation of this program.
|
| b. |
Teams: Team members must be 18 years of age or older. There will be no switching of team members or teams once team rosters have been signed and team members are weighed in on January 11, 2003. A participant may not compete on more than one team. Each team must consist of ten members.
|
| c. |
Weigh In: Registration, and "En-mass" Team Weigh In will be held from 10:00 am. - 1:00 pm. on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at Kukui Grove Shopping Center, Center Stage. Privacy of individual weights will be maintained, but total team pounds will be publicized. A detailed schedule of "Weigh-In" times will be distributed at Captain's Meeting on January 4th, 2003. *If a team member can not make it to the Weigh In and/or the Weigh Out, the Program Committee will accept a doctor's statement verifying weight.

Dress For Weigh In and Weigh Out: During the Weigh In and Weigh Out, coats, sweaters will need to be removed, however, shoes, shorts, trousers, skirts and undergarments are to be kept on. All pockets in clothing must be empty.

Weigh Out: Team Weigh Out Date is Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Kapa'a Neighborhood Center.
|
| f. |
Injuries: Kauai's Great Weigh Out Program is not responsible or liable for any injury or bodily harm sustained by participants during program operation. Before registering for this program, discuss your plan with your doctor. Be sure to receive clearance from your physician prior to participating.
|
| g. |
Media Release: Weigh In and Weigh Out team members may be photographed as part of publicity to promote Kauai's Great Weigh Out program. The right to request participant permission prior to media release is waived for media releases that positively promote the program in the form of photos, TV, newspaper, and radio.
|
| h. |
Prizes 1st and 2nd Place: Prizes will be awarded to the two teams that lose the most pounds and the two teams that earn the most Fit Bucks. Your team may only win one prize. Members of the Core Committee are not eligible to win prizes.
|
| i. |
Fitbuck Policy - Earning of Fitbucks is open to certain community and public events, not to private clubs. Individuals can earn Fitbucks through 30 min exercise which may be anywhere - private or public. However, private clubs will not involved in the dispensing of Fitbucks to clientele who belong are involved in Kauai's Great Weigh Out 2003.

Follow-up Program: There will be a free four week follow up to Kauai's Great Weigh Out. This will take place from May 5th - May 30th, 2003. All team members are expected to participate. More details in the near future. Weigh Out Too...A Healthy You!

Kauai's Great Weigh Out Core Committee consisits of County of Kauai Public Works; Parks and Recreation Division, Get Fit Kauai, Ho'ola Lahui Hawaii, Mahelona Medical Center, State Department of Health, Wilcox Women's Health Programs, Kauai Medical Clinic, W.I.C.
